I. What is “Can’t Host “?
You receive a “Can’t Host” message when you can’t accept data packets from other players because of the characteristics of your internet connection. As a result, you can't host a game session.
Case 1: *There is at least one player with “Can't host” mark.
The game can't be started in peer-to-peer mode! Client-server configuration is chosen when one player's PC is a server and all data packages go through it. That decrease game speed and can cause lags during battle.
Case 2: *All players in a room have a “Can't host” message (see screenshot).
Then game will not start at all, because nobody can both receive and send game data. You will have to find another group of players, where at least one of them can be host.
You can be unable to accept data packages from other players because of 2 reasons: Router and Firewall. Lets us check each of them:
II. NAT (Router) problem
Router is a network device which decides how data packages will be sent between network segments, based on network topology and certain rules.
Your NAT is checked when you enter the game and shown as a sign at the upper left corner of your game screen:
- Open (Green NAT sign)
means that you have “Open” Router or no router at all. This means you'll have no NAT problems during the game. - Moderate (Yellow NAT sign)
means you can experience problems playing with players who have Strict NAT. You will be unable to host a game if there is at least one Strict-NAT player in the battlefield room. - Strict (Red NAT sign)
means you're behind a Strict NAT and will be unable to host the game in any case. This also makes it difficult for other players to play when you are in the battlefield room, so we recommend you to look for a solution (see Solutions below). - Not detected (Grey NAT sign)
means that the game had failed to detect your Router type. In this case we recommend to restart the game.
Solutions:
1. If your Router is managed by your internet service provider
1.1. Find out if your provider can provide you a White IP Address; if he can, do this.
1.2. Find out if your provider can allow Port Forwarding (see further in 2.1.).
1.3. Find out if your provider can activate UPnP support; if he can, do this.
2. If you're the owner of the Router and you can manage it
2.1. Set up Port Forwarding on your Router (see here: http://www.worldofbattles.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=99 )
2.2. Switch UPnP on for your Router, if possible (see Router manual for details).
2.3. Select another Router (from a list of recommended models: http://support.xbox.com/support/en/us/xbox/xboxlive/getconnected/
compatiblenetworkequipment/compatiblenetworkingequipment.aspx#routers)
You need to restart the Router and your PC after these changes.
III. Firewall problem
- If you are using any Antivirus, Firewall or other PC protection software, set an exception for the WoB processes there: launcher.exe and updater.exe
- Please check that the following UDP ports are opened and not occupied by other programs:
- Inbound - 9103
- Outbound - 9103, 10777, 10778
- Some protection software cannot allow World of Battles to be properly connected to internet at all. In such case we recommend to switch this protection software off or uninstall it. For now the only known software that causes this problem is NOD32 (versions older than 3.0)
